Coping with the Loss of a Beloved Pet
It takes time, and you feel you can't give another fur baby that love because you just don't have it in you to deal with the heartache again. But sometimes the best therapy can be that new companion. I've been to the shelter so many times and wanted to bring home a fur baby looking for a loving home. I'm not in a financial position to do so, but my heart is ready again. Looking at those faces...so sweet!

Coping with the Loss of a Beloved Pet
100% agree with this article. There's no "getting over" the loss of a pet just like that, it's a process the same as losing any other family member, because that's what they are. They're our fur babies, they give us everything and ask practically nothing in return. A little love, a little food, a little attention. They're everything we should aspire to be to one another, and that's why we love them so much, because they truly are all in for us. It's awful that their existence is so much shorter than ours, but it is the unfortunate nature of pet companionship. The stages of grief when you do lose a pet are identical to those of a human, and it's absolutely ok to feel each and every one of them. They're our friends, our family, our therapy and more. It is ok to not be ok when your fur baby passes, and it is ok to grieve that loss.

Losing someone suddenly vs. slowly. what’s harder?
Absolutely agreed, all loss is hard no matter if it's sudden or slow. I will say that slow has been tremendously difficult to deal with, whereas losing someone quickly at least I only had to grieve them once. Losing my mother to dementia has been awful, as I've had to grieve the loss of my mother in terms of her personality and "being" and then there's still the actual loss to process when it happens. It's...a lot. So I see both sides and I agree that both sides are extremely difficult.
