When Life Falls Apart

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Ever wonder what causes people to walk away from their faith?
 A friend once told me she stopped believing in Jesus because, during
her lowest point, “God wasn’t  there when I needed Him most.” She felt
abandoned, and slowly, her faith unraveled.
 But others, facing similar pain, run toward God and find Him to be
their comfort. What makes the  difference?
The difference is not in the pain itself, but in where we turn in the
pain. If our faith is only  built on feelings, disappointment will
wreck us. But when our faith is anchored in the unchanging  promises of
God’s Word, we discover that He is near, even when we can’t sense Him.
 Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:18 that “the Lord is close to the
brokenhearted and saves those  who are crushed in spirit.” That’s not a
feeling—it’s a fact.
 So let me ask you: where do you go when life falls apart? To despair?
To distraction? Or to the  living God who has already proven His love
at the cross?
If you want to hold on to your faith in the trial, you must hold on to
His Word. He is there. He  always has been. He always will be.
