What challenges have you experienced in same-sex dating?

I would say that for me, not being recognised as a couple. When doing house viewings even if I have specified beforehand, a lot of the time the estate agents will act like we are looking as two friends. It can be frustrating as you end up having to repeat yourself or constantly come out again and again.

Another problem is, you mention you have a partner then people assume itโ€™s the opposite sex. And again, forces you to come out. Whereas if they did not assume the gender then you would be more comfortable to open up about it.

Also educating other people on how the relationship works. Someone asked me if we would adopt and I said, would you?

Orโ€ฆ people assuming itโ€™s okay to ask about your dating history.

I am straight so don't experience this, but I have a niece and 2 nephews that are gay and they always say the same thing like you're saying.

When someone says "my partner" I think that's a way of telling people that it is the same sex. (well for me anyway) it must be so frustrating though.

Partner is definitely a safe word to use but I also think that people will use it instead of saying โ€˜boyfriendโ€™ or โ€˜girlfriendโ€™ if they are a bit older as they can feel that it a bit childish or bedside theyโ€™re not married. Especially if you look a certain way or havenโ€™t had exposure to otherwise.

I would say my partner as an informal way to refer to my wife sometimes.

Iโ€™m also not gay, Iโ€™m just me. I believe we love who we love irregardless of something like gender.
