Is viewable to guests… a lot of the topics here are very sensitive in nature..I feel that a lot more should be closed off… the general chat section is ok to view…but the fact that guests can see a lot of the more personal sections is off putting.. I’m not comfortable with my more personal thoughts being viewable to the rest of the world..

I’m not saying everything has to be under lock and key…just maybe the more sensitive sections could be closed off for guests? I’m NOT criticising btw…just a suggestion. On my forum I have a pw protected area for more personal thoughts that google cant see..

I have considered this but the forum isn't busy yet. it is why we created a private area so members can post there if they want it away from the public. 🙂

. could we have a vote on which forums to remain on view and those that should remain closed off? I appreciate there is one forum closed off… but there is still some stuff viewable to google.. just a suggestion btw.. up to you..

This is why I have a PW protected forum.. A) so google and guests cant see it..and B) so newbies cant gain access straight away. I’ve had people join in the past and the first thing they wanted was access to the more private area. When I said not just yet..never saw them again. This showed me they went interested in joining in and getting to know everyone first..they just wanted to see ‘the secret’ stuff.

See…when logged OUT..where I have posted in the CBT thread and about flashbacks, that is showing to google and any guests. What I said there..especially about my brother is very personal… Can that section please be made private..as in.. not viewable to guests please?

@Jane

If you Google mental health forums, you will see that hardly any have the forums hidden, also I am not sure if you're aware but there is also an option to start a topic in the mental health section as an anonymous poster, so members have the option to do that too.

So if someone Google's mental health forum and did come across this site then the mental health section would be empty because it is private. That's why we have a couple of options now so it is more private "private and sensitive areas" and the choice to start topic in mental health area as anonymous. I hope this makes sense.

@Lavender I noticed as admins that we are allowed to hide a post. Do you know if there is a way for members to have the same permission? I looked in the members group permissions but didn't see it there. Also noticed that there is not a way for members to post a reply anonymously, just to start a thread.

Think that is just an admin option and yeah it's like FB, You can start a topic anonymous but can't reply anonymously unfortunately.

I think that it needs to be somewhere in the middle. Some of the posts need to be public so that people can see what the forum may have to offer but it makes sense to have certain sub forums hidden from guests, especially when people are sharing very sensitive and personal matters.

This was before we made the forum into Hodgepodge lodge. I appreciate your feedback though :)

Oh my bad! Apologises. I like the anon feature and it’s looking smooth now.
