When the pain is deep

Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point

of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther,

he fell with his face to the ground and prayed. – Matthew 26:38-39

Sometimes, the pain runs too deep for words.

I get it, I really do. Being single can be hard. And what makes it

harder is feeling like no one fully understands what you’re going

through. You wonder who to talk to, where to turn, or what to do with

the ache inside.

But after more than half a century of singleness, here’s what I’ve

learned: When the pain is too deep for words, go deeper in prayer.

I know it can sound like a Christian cliché. But it’s not. It’s the

way through. When Jesus agonized in the garden of Gethsemane, He

turned to His friends and found them asleep. The only place He found

comfort was in prayer to His Father.

In the moment of His greatest pain, Jesus got on His knees and prayed.

And when He rose, He was ready to face the cross. His victory at

Calvary began with surrender in the garden.

So today, will you get on your knees too? Whatever weight you’re

carrying, bring it to the Father. When you do, you’ll find Him

waiting, ready to meet you in your pain and give you the strength to

keep standing.
