  1. This content mentions body image or weight loss, eating disorders and suicide or suicidal thoughts. Please read with care. There are details of where to find help at the bottom of this page. ‘Body image’ is a term that can be used to describe how we think and feel about our bodies. Our thoughts and feelings about our bodies can impact us throughout our lives, affecting, more generally, the way we feel about ourselves and our mental health and wellbeing. How does body image affect mental health?Having body image concerns is a relatively common experience and is not a mental health problem in and of itself; however, it can be a risk factor for mental health problems. Research has found that higher body dissatisfaction is associated with a poorer quality of life, psychological distress and the risk of unhealthy eating behaviours and eating disorders. Conversely, body satisfaction and appreciation have been linked to better overall well-being and fewer unhealthy dieting behaviours. Though feeling unsatisfied with our bodies and appearance is often more common among young women, body image concerns are relevant from childhood through to later life and affect both women and men. What causes body image concerns? How our experiences and environment affect our body image will differ for everyone. However, overall, the research suggests that body image can be influenced by: our relationships with our family and friends how our family and peers feel and speak about bodies and appearance exposure to images of idealised or unrealistic bodies through media or social media pressure to look a certain way or to match an ‘ideal’ body type There are further issues relevant to body image and mental health that are specific to certain factors and experiences, such as: long-term health conditions cultural differences around body ideals gender and sexuality The above is often linked to other social factors and discrimination. 3. Yes I did, I actually had a decent collection when I was young and wish I had kept them.
  4. I am straight so don't experience this, but I have a niece and 2 nephews that are gay and they always say the same thing like you're saying. When someone says "my partner" I think that's a way of telling people that it is the same sex. (well for me anyway) it must be so frustrating though.
  5. No worries and thank you.
  6. It definitely can feel isolating. If ever you want to talk to someone then don't hesitate to reach out to me.
  7. Nice work. Thanks @Enigma
  8. I had a cabbage patch doll, I loved it and had it for years.

  10. Emmerdale actor Isabel Hodgins has spoken about her upcoming break from the ITV soap. The Victoria Sugden actor announced this week that she and husband Adam Whitehead are expecting their first child together, and that the little one is expected to arrive early next year. Having first joined Emmerdale in 2006, Hodgins' maternity leave marks a rare break for her. "I will miss it," she told The Mirror. "I love the people there, but I've worked there for 19 years, so I feel like I've done what I've wanted to do and been selfish with my career. "Now, it's time to devote my life to being a mum, that feels right to me. But there's still FaceTime, so they won't forget me! The couple tied the knot earlier this year, after announcing their engagement in 2023. They eventually realised that they were both actually born in the same hospital (which no longer has a maternity ward so their baby can't complete the hat-trick) and went to the same school, but in different years. "It's a weird story to tell people, the fact that we went to all these places and never knew each other until further down the line," she added. "It's something nice to tell the kids." ITV Hodgins isn't the only Emmerdale star to announce some heartwarming pregnancy news this week. Paula Lane, who played Ella Forster between January 2024 and April of this year, announced that she and her husband Tom Shaw are expecting a child. "Some special news to share from us. Christmas just got a bit more magical. Our baby boy due December 2025," she wrote in an Instagram post alongside an ultrasound scan and 'Big Brother' and 'Big Sister' cards. Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX and YouTube. View full article
