Grief is a natural, deeply personal response to losing someone or something important. Whether it’s the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, loss of a job, or another major life change, grief affects everyone differently.

At Mental Health Haven, we provide a supportive space to share experiences, find comfort, and learn healthy ways to cope with grief and loss.

What Is Grief?

Grief involves a range of emotions including sadness, anger, confusion, guilt, and even relief. It’s not a linear process everyone moves through grief in their own time and way.

Common grief reactions include:

  • Crying and sadness

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feeling numb or disconnected

  • Anger or frustration

  • Sleep and appetite changes

  • Searching for meaning or answers

Types of Loss

Loss can take many forms:

  • Death of family or friends

  • End of a romantic relationship

  • Loss of health or independence

  • Loss of a pet

  • Moving away from home or community

  • Loss of dreams or future plans

Coping with Grief

While grief can feel overwhelming, there are ways to find comfort and healing:

  • Allow yourself to feel grief is not a problem to fix but a process to experience

  • Seek support talk with friends, family, or support groups

  • Create rituals memorials, journaling, or honoring memories can help

  • Take care of your health try to eat, rest, and get gentle exercise

  • Be patient with yourself healing takes time and is non-linear

When to Seek Help

Sometimes grief can lead to depression, prolonged distress, or interfere with daily life. If you or someone you care about experiences:

  • Persistent intense sadness or hopelessness

  • Inability to function at work or home

  • Thoughts of self harm or suicide
